Jeff Modisett, Special Counsel
Mr. Modisett has a diverse background in law, government, and technology. Early in his career, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Central District of California, ultimately serving as Deputy Chief of the Public Corruption & Government Fraud Unit. In 1996, he was elected Indiana Attorney General, a position he held until 2000. In that capacity, he was a member of the states’ negotiating team that reached a preliminary settlement with the tobacco industry calling for historic changes in the way cigarettes were marketed in the United States. He also chaired the 1998 Allocation Committee, which developed the formula for distributing the $205 billion settlement among the states and territories.
From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Modisett served as Chief Legal Officer of a financial technology start-up in San Francisco. He later led select technology initiatives at Dentons US LLP, including serving as CEO of the award-winning Nextlaw Global Referral Network.
In private practice, Mr. Modisett has served as a senior legal advisor to Fortune 500 and technology companies, including Facebook, LegalZoom, Lyft, and Microsoft. He has represented clients in numerous matters involving state attorneys general, including antitrust, consumer protection, privacy, and strategic engagement with state officials and their offices. He also advises clients on corporate compliance and best practices.
